In June 2020, Soap2Day, a service created in 2018 by an unknown entity that allowed people to stream TV shows and movies for free, was seemingly delisted from Google, causing panic and outrage on the internet. The not-quite-legal website is now even harder to find. What happened to Soap2Day? Let’s dive in.
The dicey streaming website is now a blank white screen with the words, “Hello guys: We have decided to close Soap2Day forever. We are very sorry. Bye,” floating at the top. It’s very ominous, not to mention hilariously dramatic, especially the part where “forever” is bolded. What else can one expect from an illegal website?

Soap2day was most likely shut down because it was, again, very much illegal. Like, a lot. Since it (illegally) streamed content, it undoubtedly violated some major rules and regulations. According to Tech Numb, Soap2Day “is not a legal online movie website and anyone caught using it to access or distribute content may be heavily punished by international governments.”
In fact, there’s cause for concern that users could have been fined for watching TV shows and movies on Soap2day. “In some jurisdictions, there are steep fines upwards of $100K for using websites like Soap2Today as well as the risk of doing jail time,” Tech Numb stated.
On top of Soap2Day not being legal, it’s also possibly giving third parties users’ info. Twitter user @chlmtcupholder took a screenshot of their screen when they were using the service. It seems like they were redirected to some kind of sketchy chat service when trying to simply use Soap2Day. “So, ummm, never going on Soap2Day ever again. Scared for my life now,” they wrote. Yikes.

Obviously we are not endorsing illegally streaming movies or television shows, though we recognize that the revenue generated by the content on networks and streaming services is not going to folks like its writers. That being said, the @S2DayUnofficial Twitter is offering some suggestions for former Soap2Day users.
The website for Soap2Dayhd is currently up and running. It appears to be exactly like Soap2Day, with an hd tacked on the end for obvious reasons. The language on the site are still calling the company Soap2Day and promises the ability to stream “movies and TV series online from all genres such as Action, Comedy, Shooting, Sport, History, Thriller, etc. The site updates its database on a daily basis to keep you most updated with the cinematic world.”
I will now be probably updating this website as it was the closest thing to soap2day. https://t.co/K0CHIDfzpN
This website will mostly uploaded Cam Versions of movie’s that just came out in theaters like #SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse.

It’s also the “only official alternative to Soap2day,” and warns people about “fake copies that try to leech off your trust.” They then go on to alert users about “shady websites,” which is hilarious. A company that provides illegally obtained television shows and movies is cautioning others about questionable behavior. We love to see cognitive dissonance writ large!
