Today is Andrea Pirlo’s birthday, with Juventus’ midfielder metronome turning 36 years young! Long may he reign.
However, long before the dreamy facial topiary, the personal vineyard and the effortless cool came this – a spindly, slightly gawky teenager who struggled to fit in for a fair old while…

For shame pies….
I turn 36 in three weeks. Gosh, here’s to thinking he’s old…
Though I have to say, I look a bit younger. Than again, I gave up my competitive sporting at 22, not in my late 30s. Takes a lot out of a guy.
Even in that Italy U21 picture he looks about 45. Rugged.
Pirlo, Inzaghi, Rui Costa and Javi Moreno. Quite the legends.
