A long-range goal from Andrea Pirlo sent AC Milan back to the top of Serie A, after lowly Udinese Calcio earned their maiden league win with a last-gasp defeat of AC Cesena.
AC Milan returned to the top of Serie A with a 1-0 win at Parma FC on a night when Udinese Calcio recorded their maiden victory of the campaign.
A spectacular 30-metre strike by Andrea Pirlo put the Rossoneri in the ascendancy on 25 minutes, and the hosts had to be grateful to Italian international Antonio Mirante for making a string of saves to limit further damage, including a triple block from Zlatan Ibrahimović, before the break.
Mirante also denied Ronaldinho, who subsequently dragged a shot wide, in the second half, while at the other end Christian Abbiati saved from Fernando Marqués and Hernán Crespo late on. Milan’s first league away win since 3 April takes them top of the standings, a point clear of FC Internazionale Milano, who face Juventus on Sunday evening, and S.S. Lazio.
Earlier in the evening Udinese earned their first league win, but it took until the third minute of added time for the hosts’ persistence to pay off against AC Cesena. The Friulani, who remain rooted to the foot of the table despite the 1-0 win, had twice hit the woodwork and been repeatedly thwarted by experienced goalkeeper Francesco Antonioli before defender Mehdi Benatia poked in the winner with seconds remaining.
