Posted by Emmerdale fended off competition from EastEnders, Casualty and Hollyoaks, despite often being overlooked as the underdog, to pick up the iconic masked trophy.
After a remarkable year for the ITV soap, which saw Emmerdale also win the top prize at the National Television Awards, producer Iain McLeod accepted the well-deserved prize on behalf of the entire cast and crew.
Naturally, stars of the show went into meltdown, including Danny Miller who posed with the trophy for a photo, and shared alongside the caption: “No biggie. Just a BAFTA.”
Charlotte Bellamy, who stars as Laurel Potts, cheered: “Amazing Amazing AMAZING So pleased & proud for everyone involved,” while an excitable AdamThomas beamed: “Amazing Amazing AMAZING So pleased & proud for everyone involved.”

Marlon Dingle star Mark Chance added: “BAFTA BAFTA BAAAAFTAAAAHHH!!! Thrilled to actual bits. So proud of our gang. So proud of #Emmerdale .”
Meanwhile John Bowe, who recently admitted he was gutted to be axed form Emmerdale, brushed off his recent comments to cry: “Well done Emmerdale. My pride and love extends particularly to the magnificent cast and crew, always trustworthy and reliable on the set.”
“#BAFTATV oh my god oh my god oh my god!!!! @emmerdale won the bafta!!!! A M A Z I N G,” shrieked Belle Dingle star Isabel Hodgins, while Charley Webb, otherwise known as Debbie Dingle, glowed: “Oh YES we did @emmerdale @BAFTA BEYOND PROUD.”

Coronation Street was controversially snubbed from this year’s shortlist, to the surprise of many fans on Twitter.
