Buried at the end of Jason Schreier’s new report about how Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failed is a tidbit about a much, much more successful WB game, Hogwarts Legacy.
In the piece, it appears there may be more coming to Hogwarts Legacy, but not in the form of traditional DLC. Rather, a Director’s Cut.
“Many of the studio’s employees are now helping to develop a new “director’s cut” version of Hogwarts Legacy. At the same time, according to people familiar, the studio leaders are looking to pitch a new single-player game, which would return Rocksteady to its roots.”
The initial “studio” in question I believe is Warner Bros. Games as a whole, not Rocksteady, albeit perhaps some employees may be able to help. Reportedly despite the failure of Suicide Squad there won’t be Rocksteady layoffs as WB Games is already understaffed as it is for its grand ambitions.
What exactly would be included in a “Director’s Cut” is unclear. That likely means some amount of new missions, though no major storylines that would be on the scale of DLC. It always felt like Quidditch had been cut from the game entirely due to time constraints, though more than likely due to the live service Quidditch game WB is making. I would not expect that to be added in.
But speaking of added in, Hogwarts Legacy is about to get its biggest patch to date today, which is adding in a bunch of new stuff, plus old stuff that was previously only available to PlayStation players. We have:
- The Haunted Shop mission
- The Onyx Hyppogriff mount
- The Felix Felicis Potion
- The Shopkeeper Cosmetic set
- The Lavender Borealis
- The Azkaban Themed gear
- The Circular Taped Spectacles
- Full photo mode
- Talent reset capability
There are also a few dozen gameplay and mission fixes in the patch, and you can read them all here if you want. There are also some support options for different PC graphical settings including DLSS 3.7 and FSR 2.
The full breadth of the content is mainly that formerly PlayStation-only Haunted Shop mission, but you can play around with the new cosmetics or photo mode, or respec your talents to get to other skills you missed. I am wondering if that includes the ability to grab Unforgivable Curses if you didn’t get them previously, given that was a pretty key story decision.
Anyway, with 25 million players and counting, there will be a number of people heading back for this, and we will wait and hear more about this potential director’s cut.
