ITHACA, N.Y.—The Ithaca City School District announced Sunday that although one person was found to have a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Ithaca High School, the school would continue its hybrid and distance learning plans as scheduled. The case was identified in a student.
According to an announcement from the school, the health department found the positive test and was conducting contact tracing as of Sunday afternoon. Information will be shared with those who are identified as close contacts, but apparently the number is not expected to reach the point where IHS can’t hold in-person classes due to teachers quarantining. According to the state, the positive test was reported to it on March 22 (but not necessarily discovered that day) and the student was taking in-person classes.
Public health nurses are expected to follow-up with those who must quarantine as a result of the positive test.
According to the state’s COVID-19 school report card, Ithaca High School has had just 12 positives since September, though two of them have come in the past 14 days. Only three teachers have tested positive since September.
