One of the greatest days for Nintendo fans has finally arrived as the big summer Nintendo Direct has arrived. While we didn’t get any news from the much-anticipated Switch 2, Nintendo did reveal a ton of exciting updates for old games and some surprising new games that should make the wait for the Switch’s successor a little easier.
Among the highlights were The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom which lets you play as Princess Zelda, our first look at Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood, Super Mario Party Jamboree, the HD-2D remakes of the first three Dragon Quest games, and so much more.
There was A LOT to take in during the Nintendo Direct, but this roundup will be the place to ensure you don’t miss a thing.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Announced for Nintendo Switch With Zelda as Protagonist
In one of the biggest surprises from the Nintendo Direct, it was announced that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom – a brand-new game in the legendary franchise – will be released on Switch on September 26, 2024. Furthermore, this new game will feature Princess Zelda as the main character as Link and other people from Hyrule have gone missing after strange rifts have started appearing.
Zelda will have to work with a mysterious fairy named Tri to use the “power of the Tri Rod to create echoes – imitations of things found in the environment.” This means you can make “bridges out of old beds,” use “water blocks to reach new heights,” and more.
Additionally, a limited edition, gold-colored Nintendo Switch Lite with the Hylian Crest will arrive alongside the game.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Gameplay and Release Window Finally Revealed
After over seven years, Nintendo has finally shown off Metroid Prime 4: Beyond with gameplay and a 2025 release window. We didn’t learn too much about Samus’ new adventure, but it’s a welcome look to a game that was first announced back at Nintendo’s E3 2017 presentation.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership Is Jumping to Nintendo Switch This November
Mario & Luigi: Brothership is jumping to Nintendo Switch on November 7, 2024, with a very unique and colorful artstyle. This new adventure will send our favorite brothers on an island-hopping adventure on the part ship, part island called Shipshape Island.
As Mario and Luigi journey across Concordia, they will visit rainforests, cities, and more alongside running into Peach, Bowser, and other Mushroom Kingdom favorites.
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Is Coming to Switch in November, Dragon Quest 1-2 HD-2D to Follow in 2025
The much-anticipated Dragon Quest HD-2D remakes are coming to Switch later this year and next. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D will be released first on November 14, 2024, and Dragon Quest 1-2 HD-2D will follow in 2025.
Dragon Quest 3, which is actually the chronological beginning of the Erdrick Trilogy storyline, will let players embark on a quest to save the world from the dark forces of the evil Archfiend, Baramos.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Arrives on Switch in January 2025
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is set to be released on Switch on January 16, 2025, complete with 2-player local co-op, the 80 levels from the original Wii version, the additional stages from the 3DS version, and much more. Soon, players will once again be able to take the fight to the Taki Tak Tribe to win back Donkey Kong’s “previous banana hoard.”
Super Mario Party Jamboree Is the Latest Entry to Bring the Fun to Switch
A brand new Mario Party game – Super Mario Party Jamboree – is headed to Nintendo Switch on October 17, 2024. It will take players to an “enormous island resort” and features five new game boards, two boards from previous games, over 110 minigames, a Koopathlon mode that supports over 20 players, and so much more.
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics Is Bringing Seven Beloved Games to Switch
Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics brings X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and The Punisher under one Switch-shaped roof. It will be released later in 2024 and includes original songs from the arcade releases, development docs, and never-before-seen art.
