The Big Ten will crown a different champion on the diamond for the seventh consecutive season, as the 2024 Big Ten baseball tournament kicks off Tuesday at Charles Schwab Field.
One year removed from winning the Big Ten baseball tournament, Maryland missed the cut for the 2024 tournament after a 10-14 finish in Big Ten play. The Big Ten has not crowned a back-to-back champion since Indiana in 2013 and 2014; the Hoosiers are the No. 3 seed this year.
This year’s No. 1 seed is Illinois (32-17, 17-6 in Big Ten play), which claimed its first Big Ten regular-season title since 2015 after picking up a series win over Purdue on Saturday. Catcher Camden Janik hit .370 this season, good for a tie for sixth in the Big Ten.
