When a new Final Fantasy XIV expansion launches, that can lead to increased appearances of error codes. Some of them are ones where you need to wait on Square Enix for something to happen. In the case of FFXIV Error 90002 and 90006, there are a few things you can do.
How do I fix FFXIV Error 90002 and 90006?
Both Error 90002 and 90006 are tied to network connection issues. They come up if you are playing, and they can result in you being disconnected and bumped from the game. While there is a very good chance the error could be on Square Enix’s side, there is also something you can do to double check and ensure a more stable environment to double check and make sure it isn’t you. (Though if you are encountering it around a launch of an expansion of Endwalker or Dawntrail, I’d say odds are it is due to congestion and isn’t your fault.)
The primary course of action is to go with a wired internet connection if you can. This will be easiest for people playing FFXIV on a PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, or desktop PC, where you’re guaranteed a port. Just connect directly to your modem, rather than using WiFi. This could help. If a wired connection isn’t an option for you, trying unplugging and plugging your router back in again is worth trying as well.
If you are playing on a PC or laptop, it doesn’t hurt to also check your Network and Internet options. Clearing your browser history and making sure you accept first and third party cookies.
However, if you’re encountering Error 90002 or 90003 in FFXIV around the time of a major expansion launch, such as Dawntrail, know that it could be caused by the increased demand on the server. As such, it could be wise to try playing outside of peak hours. If you do, then you may have a better chance of enjoying an uninterrupted play session.
Here’s the list of times when FFXIV can be most congested:
- European Data Center: 4am-4pm PT/7am-7pm ET/1pm-1am CET
- Japanese Data Center: 2am-8am PT/5am-11am ET/11am-5pm CET
- North American Data Center: 1pm-11pm PT/4pm-2am ET/10pm-8am CET
- Oceanian Data Center: 12am-6am PT/3am-9am ET/9am-3pm CET
Final Fantasy XIV and its Dawntrail expansion are now in early access on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and PC, and the full Dawntrail launch starts on July 2, 2024.
