NC State 8, Georgia 5
NC State is heading to its fourth College World Series appearance ever and its first since 2021 after handling Georgia in the Athens Super Regional.
Georgia went down in order in the first inning but got on the board first in the second inning thanks to a two-run homer from Tre Phelps.

But Georgia’s two-run cushion lasted less than an inning as the Wolfpack tied things up in the third behind a two-run shot from Garrett Pennington.

NC State then took the lead in the fourth inning after a passed ball allowed a run and Alec Makarewicz drove in a run with an RBI single. Things were stagnant in the fifth inning, but the Wolfpack added some insurance with a solo homer from Eli Serrano to make it 5-2.

Georgia cut into the lead with a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth, but NC State quickly answered back with another home run, this time from Alex Sosa.

Georgia had a chance to tie things up in the seventh inning with a pair of runners on, but Serrano made an impressive catch at the wall to prevent a huge play for the Bulldogs.

Georgia managed to get a run across in the seventh, but NC State made a comeback more difficult in the eighth behind a two-run home run off the bat of Makarewicz.

In the bottom of the ninth, Georgia showed some signs of a rally after Charlie Condon hit a solo home run, but the Bulldogs didn’t have enough to erase the three-run deficit.
The storyline for the Wolfpack as they head to Omaha is head coach Elliot Avent, who is in his 28th season and could be nearing his retirement. If it is the final year for Avent, winning the College World Series to end his career would be the perfect way to cap off a historic tenure.
