College Baseball Regional 2024: Results, Highlights and Bracket from Saturday – Bleacher Report

Day 2 of the NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament featured plenty of drama.
Friday’s action featured six walk-offs and multiple national seeds dropping to the loser’s bracket. On Saturday, 16 team’s saw their seasons come to a close, while the remaining programs are focused on advancing to the Super regionals
Among the eliminated are the preseason No. 1 ranked team, a national powerhouse and several mid-majors that came up just a bit short.

Many thought these two schools would meet on Saturday, although the context was quite different than those previous expectations.
Both East Carolina and Wake Forest got upset on Friday, which meant that the two teams would meet with elimination at stake. Entering the final inning, it looked like East Carolina was set to be the first national seed to be eliminated
Instead, the preseason No. 1 Demon Deacons are headed home.

The Pirates actually entered the ninth inning sporting a 4-1 lead. but a five runs from Wake Forest in the top of the inning but East Carolina in a 6-4 hole.
That’s where the Pirates bats came to play. East Carolina hit four consecutive singles to start the inning, tying the game in the process. That set the table for Luke Nowak, who delivered a walk-off single.

East Carolina will await the loser of VCU and Evansville on Sunday.
High Point 10, Vanderbilt 9
Vanderbilt has been a threat in the NCAA Tournament for years. This year, however, a trip to Omaha was not fated to occur.
After dropping its first game to Coastal Carolina, the Commodores needed to hold off High Point to stay alive. However, the Panthers were unwilling to cooperate.

Vanderbilt went up 5-0, but High Point tied it in the sixth and made it 9-5 in the seventh. The Commodores knotted it nine in the eighth and it looked like the game was destined to go to extra innings.
The Panthers, instead, benefitted from an error and some small ball to get a runner on third and Miggy Echazaretta clinched the win with a walk-off single.

This is the first NCAA Tournament victory in High Point’s program history and just the second victory it has ever claimed against an SEC Team.
The Panthers will face Coastal Carolina on Sunday.
St. Johns 10, Penn 9
St. Johns has logged plenty of innings in this tournament.
Just hours after losing to Mississippi State in 10 innings, it took 12 for the Red Storm to knock off Penn by a score of 10-9.

This game followed the walk-off trend as well, as Anthony Brienza delivered the single that brought St. Johns the victory in the bottom of the 12th.

St. Johns will face Virginia or Mississippi State on Sunday
Dallas Baptist 7, Arizona 0
It was not a great showing for the Arizona Wildcats.
The No. 13 seed becomes the first national seed to be sent home as the bats fail to show up in the elimination game against Dallas Baptist.

The Patriots got a gem from starter Jaron DeBerry, as he went six innings while surrendering zero runs on just three hits and four walks. Arizona mustered only five hits on the day and struck out eight times.
Dallas Baptist will take on Grand Canyon or West Virginia on Sunday.
