Springfield Armory expanded its Hellcat Pro line of handguns with the Pro Comp OSP model, featuring a single integral compensator machined into the top of the barrel and slide. This single port, located just forward of the front-sight dovetail, does not increase the size of the pistol compared to its non-compensated sibling, ensuring that users have compatible holsters and a similar feel while experiencing a significant reduction in muzzle rise.
“The Hellcat Pro was designed to deliver full-size performance in a concealable, EDC-ready package with unmatched ergonomics,” said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s vice president of marketing. “Now with the Hellcat Pro Comp, shooters have a new option that combines advanced performance with ease of concealability.”
The single-port compensator design is discreetly concealed beneath a scalloped cut on the top of the slide near the muzzle, and the gun’s 6.6″ overall length and 3.7″ barrel length is not affected by the design. Springfield relocated the front-sight dovetail to sit behind the compensator, ensuring that there’s no interruption of the sight picture from propellant gases or debris exiting the compensator during firing.
As with previous versions of the Springfield Hellcat Pro, the gun incorporates a milled slide compatible with Shield RMSc-pattern red-dot optics, and a high-visibility set of sights is included on the gun, featuring a tritium-illuminated front dot paired with a U-notch rear sight with a flat-faced, “Tactical Rack” design for racking the gun one-handed off a flat surface, if necessary.
Compared to the company’s original Hellcat, the Pro brought some extra length, height and magazine capacity to the line, giving consumers a concealed-carry option that offered a bit more in the way of capability over Springfield’s original micro-compact. In American Rifleman’s review, “Upsizing The Micro-Compact: Springfield Armory’s Hellcat Pro,” the gun was described as being something akin to “the perfect balance,” and with Springfield’s new Hellcat Pro Comp OSP, the gun is even more shootable than it was.
