The patch notes for League of Legends 14.13 have been released and the highlight is undoubtedly some big changes that have arrived for Varus, as well as a lot of smaller tweaks for other champions.
Compared to other patches, 14.13 is looking a little smaller than some, which is partly due to Riot’s summer break extending this patch to be three weeks long instead of the usual two. The next patch will be 14.14, which is expected to arrive on July 17 and include the release of new champion Aurora.
But while it may be small, there are still some big changes coming to League of Legends with the most significant being a major overhaul to Varus. Varus is currently one of the most popular picks in pro play, so to try and tone that down and make them more fun to play for everyone, Riot is making some big tweaks to his passive, with the patch notes explaining it better than I ever could.
“The primary change here is a retooling of his passive,” reads the patch notes. “Instead of granting increasingly large amounts of attack speed, it will give a smaller amount up front that should feel similar in the laning phase, but as the game goes on, give stats that synergize with attack speed: AD for autos, Q, and E, and AP for the entire W loop. We’re also powering up the spell-weaving loop by giving more cooldown refund on Blight pops. Ideally, Varus will have a strong spell-weaving AD-AS item build alongside his pure lethality and on-hit ones.”
The big loser of the patch seems to be Skarner, not for the first time. Since his rework his win rate has continued to grow as people get better at playing him, and now he is proving to be a bit too strong. His Q is the target of the new nerfs, with it getting a max health damage reduction and a big mana cost increase, going from 30 to 50.
In news that is good for me, both Gangplank and Graves get small buffs. As two of my most played champions, you can expect my win rate to not change at all as I am just straight up bad at them no matter how strong they are.
The full patch notes also feature changes for a few other champions, as well as info on some Arena changes and a big list of bug fixes.
While this might not be a major patch for League of Legends, the next month or so looks great, with a big new summer event including a Vampire Survivors style game mode and a cool new champion coming next month.
