With CEO 2024 now behind us, perhaps the biggest tournament of the year, Evo 2024, is slated to begin on July 19 and last until July 21. The main Evo 2024 lineup consists of Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Mortal Kombat 1, Guilty Gear Strive, The King of Fighters 15, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Under Night In-Birth II Sys:Celes, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.
We’ve been hearing a lot recently about how Evo 2024 is breaking records this year. According to the Evo team, Evo 2024 marks the largest Street Fighter 3: Third Strike event ever. Of course, it goes even beyond that as it is also reportedly breaking the all-time attendance record for eSports events in general.
Earlier today, the Evo team finally gave us the exact numbers to support these statements. Unsurprisingly, Street Fighter 6 took the top spot on the final Evo 2024 registration leaderboard.
In total Street Fighter 6 has 5,265 players registered to compete this year. We recently heard that Evo 2024 has surpassed 10,000 unique registrants, suggesting that around half the players attending the yearly event have signed up for Street Fighter 6.
Of course, Tekken 8 took second place with 4,646 players signed up to compete. Notably, Tekken 8 has more than double the number of entrants of the third most popular game at the event, Guilty Gear Strive.
Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike are said to have 2,058, 1,377, and 1,101 entrants respectively. For Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, it’s impressive how it was apparently able to break its record considering that the game is about 25 years old at this point.
Mortal Kombat 1 came in at seventh place with 645 players competing this year. As a Mortal Kombat fan myself, I have to admit that these numbers don’t look all that great for one of the AAA titles at Evo 2024.
Comparably, Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 have about eight times and seven times as many players signed up at Evo 2024 respectively than those signed up for Mortal Kombat 1.
Finally, The King of Fighters 15 ended up being the least popular game this year with 375 entrants. Check it all out below:
