Area schools will be closed Tuesday due to hazardous road conditions.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation on Monday issued a warning of icy conditions on roads and bridges in Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties through Tuesday.
The notice warns of hazardous conditions “especially on area bridges and overpasses.”
Columbus Municipal and Lowndes County school districts confirmed they would be closed Tuesday, as did Heritage Academy.
Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District announced its schools will be closed Tuesday and will delay Wednesday’s start times on each campus by two hours. Likewise Starkville Academy announced a Tuesday closure and a 10 a.m. start time for Wednesday.
The Mississippi University for Women will also cancel in-person classes Tuesday. All campus offices will be closed. The university will announce by noon Tuesday its status for Wednesday.
All East Mississippi Community College offices will be closed Tuesday, with in-person classes canceled. Online classes will begin as scheduled.
