WineRev’s Good and Goofy Notes

Watch for WineRev’s G&G notes in the comments to see what others went through, struggled with, and surmounted in the past. His G&G comments are mini Good News Roundups. You can find all his comments here, even today’s, once he posts it. Tech Tip: You can search for >>> in Roundups to quickly find his comments.

WineRev, last Sunday:

The Sunday morning Cometh…..and so does 2thanks, cantering briskly ahead of the Gnusie herd. As we all trot into the front yard, we can see 2thanks has opened the gates, set out the sidewalk cafe tables with the Martini & Rossi or the Cinzano umbrellas, made sure the fountains are splashing, and that the front side of the Gnuville Breakfast Brunch is done in the motif of An Early Morning Waking in Paris.

Let the staff charm you with coffee, tea, mocha-cocoa or “Mimosas from Provence”, take your orders for all things cereal, toasted, egged onto the griddle, or quichie-d in the oven. They will bring it to your seat in the Vin Ordinaire Lounge on the other side of the Brunch. Here the Wifi glows, the pixels stream and dance, and there are comments, sips, recs, toasts, links, salutes, digressions, quiet sighs of delight, chuckles, and a fine appreciation of the setting, the amenities, the support and consolation of each other. You know, the Good News Round Up, Paris edition…...enchante! And Merci, 2thanks, for getting us going on a holiday weekend Sunday!

Science

Researchers have identified a possible cause of lupus that could lead to a cure for the life-threatening condition, potentially stopping the immune system from mistakenly waging a nearly full-body attack on itself.

The findings were published Wednesday in Nature. The researchers compared and experimented with blood samples from 19 people with lupus and blood samples from 19 healthy people. The team used multiple molecular biology techniques to arrive at their conclusions, including CRISPR gene editing and a specialized approach for sequencing ribonucleic acid (RNA), which is present in all living cells and is similar to DNA in its structure.

The researchers concluded that the blood samples from the people with lupus showed an impaired body process that is related to environmental pollutants, bacteria, and metabolites (substances made by chemical changes in your body that turn food into energy). When the researchers made changes to the blood samples targeting that process, the lupus-causing cells seemed to be reprogrammed into a different type of cell that may promote protection and repair in the body.

Scientists Identify a Speech Trait That Foreshadows Cognitive Decline

Can you pass me the whatchamacallit? It’s right over there next to the thingamajig.

Many of us will experience “lethologica”, or difficulty finding words, in everyday life. And it usually becomes more prominent with age.

Frequent difficulty finding the right word can signal changes in the brain consistent with the early (“preclinical”) stages of Alzheimer’s disease – before more obvious symptoms emerge.

However, a recent study from the University of Toronto suggests that it’s the speed of speech, rather than the difficulty in finding words that is a more accurate indicator of brain health in older adults.

Great selection today. Thank you, Rise above the swamp!

Please share good science news with us! (Especially JSWT, health, environment.)

A good place to look for science news if you are waiting for the Sunday Roundup is the archive of Overnight News Digest. On Saturdays, the OND always focuses on science, though not all of it is devoted to what I would call Good Science News.

Need more good news?

… arhpdx posted a list of good news sites toward the top of a recent Roundup, or you can find that same list in my comment: Good News Sources. Thank you, arhpdx and Mokurai!

Please note that the Google Map, though convenient to operate, is visually inaccurate because, among other issues, it enlarges North America and shrinks Africa [Maps present a distorted view of the world by kos].

A Little Bit About Me: Fired Up And Ready to Joe!

Disappointment. I had planned to attend Joe Biden’s speech in Detroit on Friday, I preregistered on Tuesday, I received my confirmatory email, and I had posted a MoneyBomb Diary for Joe which, with your help, brought in $2K for him. (Thank you!)

However, when I reached the head of the line of attendees, I was informed that my name was not in the Secret Service’s database for the event, and they would not let me into the hall. Therefore, I’m unable to bring you pictures or a report of the event. I’m sorry.

As a replacement, here’s Brainwrap’s diary about his experience at the event:

#MotownIsJoeTown! Me 3 days ago vs. me today: I’m #FiredUpReadyToJOE!
By Brainwrap

BOTTOM LINE:

As far as I’m concerned, the NATO press conference definitely shut down the “does he have cognitive issues?” concerns…and the Detroit rally definitively answered the “can he campaign strongly?” concerns.

If he can keep it anywhere close to this type of performance thru November I’ll have zero concerns.

It doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to win, of course, but he’s got his second wind and is raring to fight.

I’m fired up & ready to JOE!!

Our Roundup is almost open!

Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, 50% of us do, and 10% are here for the first time! We all do what we can. For 5 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind! Beginners, you are cordially invited to comment!

As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.

This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin!

Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️

2thanks (he, him)

Once again, with homage, obiesances, and thanks to Bill in Portland Maine, I’m reusing borrowing stealing recycling copying one of his polls from this week, almost verbatim.
